Those Strange Arms Purchases

Tanks are not suitable for jungle or mountainous terrain. Subs of the diesel-electric type have been obsolete for thirty years. So what is the reason they are being purchased?

Arms sales are counter-productive to efforts to have a peaceful world. Everyone knows arms are not restricted to purely defensive use. So why is the market for military hardware so large?

Politicians use arms purchases for personal profit and to fill their political party coffers. The US and Russia compete to be the largest arms dealers in the world. Though justification is offered that selling is selective, and conditional, once the arms are delivered there is no control over either the end users or the victims.

There is no moral or ethical basis for arms dealing, yet the arms sales continue at a vigorous pace. Kickbacks to ministers increase the cost of arms purchases, and these illegal fees are added to the public debt of the buying country. This explains why ministers are eager to 'upgrade' their military hardware. It is a safe assumption that large 'commissions' or 'consultation fees' are a standard part of every arms transaction.
